What are the parts of DNA nucleotides?

Answer:

Each nucleotide has three components:

  • a nitrogenous base: either a purine (adenine or guanine) or a pyrimidine (cytosine or thymine)
  • a sugar: the pentose, deoxyribose
  • a phosphate group

The sugar is in the middle of the three. Its 1' carbon is attached to the base, and its 5' carbon to the phosphate.
