What are the pews?

Answer:
Pews are the long benches that are used in churches or other place where large groups of people meet. Some of them will seat as many as 12 or more people. They are usually fixed in place and have sturdy backs to them. Apparently this word is known as early as the 17th century. Many churches and other places that currently use auditoriums are changing to individual seats because it is much easier to accommodate the seating to various needs as the arise.
