What are the primary duties and responsibilities of a supervisor and those of an SPA?

Answer:

Supervisors:

We as supervisors have two primary responsibilities, to the site, and to the members. Our first and highest goal is to protect the site, WikiAnswers itself. We review questions and answers, we check the contributions of users and registered members for inappropriate content and errors, and we make changes where necessary. A very close second responsibility is to protect our members. We watch for cyberbullying and when we discover it we take actions to correct it or to eliminate it.
We also perform a number of other functions:

Supervise categories:

This is the major responsibility of Supervisors: to watch for spam and vandalism in the category (or categories) we supervise. Every member can change an answer, but only supervisors can remove a contribution as if it never existed.

Supervise all of WikiAnswers:

Both category and floating supervisors keep an eye on the entire site. We patrol new answers, new questions, edited answers, discussion areas, message boards, and the Forum for misbehavior, errors, mistakes made by members and unregistered users (UU's), and we make corrections where necessary. Occasionally, we need to take corrective action with a registered member or UU; this usually results in some sort of informal or formal warning, or the interruptions of service, and sometimes the termination of service.

Feature questions:

We are the only ones with the ability to feature unanswered questions on the WikiAnswers and Answers.com home pages. We like to find ones that might be interesting and inviting to first-timers. It's a great way to get them hooked.
Improve popular questions and answers:

Site supervisors have expertise in a wide variety of areas. Some are educators or former educators, some are active or former military members, some know about weapons, manufacturing, library science, some are lawyers, or historians, or authors, other work or have worked in law enforcement; we all bring something to the table.

In each category, the questions listed highest are the most popular ones; they are being read by the most people. Occasionally, we answer these questions, or if several answers already exist, we edit and merge the answers into a cohesive whole.

Merging and Splitting Questions:Every time a question is asked on WikiAnswers the system automatically looks for similar or like questions. For instance, one questioner might ask, "What are the moons of Jupiter?" He might then be directed to a short list of questions that refer to Earth's moon, Jupiter's moons, or any moons in general. If the questioner does not see his question in the list, or feels his question is different, or possible does not understand the process, he may post his question as totally new. Later, another questioner asks, "What are the moons of Saturn?" and sees the first question in the suggested list. he may feel the questions are close enough, or still may not understand the process and add his question to the alternates of the first.

Our job as supervisors is to review these alternates from time to time and look for questions that do not fit, those that are not similar or like and "split" them out into a separate question. Sometimes we find loose questions that are similar or the same as existing merged questions, and we add these to the alternatives list of the similar or same questions.

Protect and Unprotect questions:
Watch community pages:

We watch community pages such as discussion areas and the Forum for abuse and violations of WikiAnswers rules, and make corrections or take corrective action when necessary.
