First let's define bullying. It is a variety of behaviors that involve a person or group that is trying to harm someone who is weaker or vulnerable. It can be name calling, hitting, threats, sexual remarks, spreading rumors, or encouraging others to reject or exclude the person. Almost 30% of teens are involved in some sort of school bullying. It can lead to teens feeling tense, anxious, and afraid. It can affect concentration in school, lead them to avoid school, affect self esteem and feelings of self worth, cause depression, and some consider suicide. Teen boys who bully are more than likely to engage in other antisocial behaviors such as drug use, vandalism, shoplifting, truancy. They are 4 times more likely than non bullies to be convicted of crimes by the age 24 with 60% of bullies having at least one criminal conviction.
