When Muslim men are in ihram, the pilgrim's state of consecration, they should wear two pieces of plain, undyed, and undecorated woven fabric. One cloth is wrapped around the waist and secured with ties or safety pins. The other is draped over the shoulder.

These garments are worn during both hajj, the major pilgrimmage, and umrah, the lesser pilgrimmage.

Muslim women on pilgrimmage wear their usual hijab: long, loose opaque clothing that covers everything except the face and the hands.

Muslims during hajj (pilgrimage) wear as follows:

  • for men: The special clothing for hajj (pilgrimage) is composed of two pieces (usually white colored). One piece to cover the lower part from naval to after the knees. The other part to worn on the shoulders and coming down. Both pieces should be tailored to describe the body.
  • for women: They wear the clothing that they are allowed, per religion, to wear in other days but preferred to be white colored. This clothing, per religion, should cover the whole body ( including head, hair, and neck) except face and hands that should not be covered. The clothing should be neither tight nor transparent.

The men wear 2 white sheets, called Ihram clothing. The top sheet is draped over the torso and the bottom is secured by a belt; plus a pair of sandals. This is to show that everyone is equal in the eyes of God. Women, on the other hand, are allowed to wear what they feel is best for them.

For men, there are two pieces of cloth, Izar, which is for the lower part of the body, and Ridaa, for the upper part>

they are banned to wear sewed clothing, to feel humble and be all equal before their God.

Women can wear sewed clothing, of any kind, on condition that they cover the whole body except face and hands.

That is not true. There is nothing that may prevent Muslims from doing so. However, Muslims never wear underwear on Hajj as that is one of the rules/ traditions.
