The majority of Ice Hockey around the world is played under the umbrella of three organizations, Hockey Canada, USA Hockey, and the International Ice Hockey Federation, each with their own set of rules.

The National Hockey League has its own rulebook, from which the rulebooks of most North American professional leagues are derived.

United States high school leagues use the National Federation of State High School Associations rulebook, and varsity college hockey is governed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association's rules.

The rules of ice skating are to always keep your knees bent down so you can keep your balance. If necessary you may stretch out your arms for extra help, but as you get higher and higher up in the ice skating levels, you stop doing that.

You take a step with the other foot each time. It's basically walking on ice, but you have on skates and are moving much faster at times.

To move faster, simply bend your knees more, step in faster motions, and keep a straight balance.

To stop, you must push your skates against the ice in a halting position. Your knees will be bent, and you might see some ice shavings on your skates and in the air (this occurs when the ice goes flying up).
