There are many. One is the rule of thirds. This is a rule of composition where the most important features in the photograph are most pleasing to look at if they fall in a third when you section off the photograph in three even sections both horizonatlly and vertically.

Two things ... Light can be focused (by a lens). There are chemicals which are changed by the presence of light. They are the same rules as are used by vision, but the chemicals are different.
