  • If there is a crosswalk, use it. Wait for the walking person icon before walking.
  • Stop, look, and listen. Stop before crossing. Look both ways a few times to make sure you see no cars approaching. Listen for car engines. If all is clear, cross.
  • If you have a bike, skateboard, or scooter, do not use them while crossing.

Think safety first and cross the road!

Usually just walk. Depending on the type of street such as intersections with/without lights or a side street with/withoust stopsigns you should always look both ways, regardless of if a stopsign is there or not considering a lot of people don't know how to drive. At stoplights, never walk until the walking image appears and still look both ways because people frequently run stoplights!

No, though pedestrians must use their best judgement before crossing the road, lawfully they don't have to yield to cars, pedestrians have the right-of-way over cars, thus, cars must watch for pedestrians. At a crosswalk at a intersection pedestrians lawfully cannot cross on a solid red hand and must wait until the hand goes to a picture of a white walking person, cars still must yield to those pedestrians in that crosswalk regardless.

Pedestrians should use their best judgement when crossing a high-flow intersection even when they have the legal right of way to cross. Should they yield? No, because they legally do not have to. You must yield to them.
