Greece is made up of the southern or lower part of the Balkan peninsula, which is in the northeastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, and of numerous islands off the coast.

The Balkan Peninsula borders a myriad of seas. Clockwise from North, there is the Black Sea, Sea of Marmara, the Aegean Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Ionian Sea, and the Adriatic Sea.
