It can be--mould has been linked to sinus/respiratory infections, and fungal infections can also plague the body.

Some moulds can be eaten in moderation; for example, certain cheeses such as bleu, Brie, Camembert, Roquefort include mould in the cheese but it is edible.

Pregnant women are told to avoid mouldy cheeses because the immune system is weak in pregnancy.
