You can usually tell if a rabbit doe is pregnant within a few days after conception. She will become moody and more aggressive due to hormone fluctuations. You'll also be able to feel her nipples growing. And she may begin 'nesting' behaviour, such as piling up bedding in hidden places (other than her normal resting spot) and plucking fur from her neck and chest to line the nest.

A doe should not exhibit the above 'symptoms' until she is close to kindling, at least half way thru her pregnancy. If she starts nesting activity too early it is probably the signs of a false pregnancy. Does do not start to make milk until they are about 20 days into their pregnancy.

Answerpulling of fur she may come more aggressive towards you or she could start nesting also they won't let you touch them or pick them up

ANSWER #2 They may have an increase in appetite, they will show a reluctance to have you pick them up (and you must be very gentle if you do taking EXTRA care not to drop them), they may make a small grunting or crying sound when you pick them up, they will pick up pieces of straw in their mouths and race around their cage. When you give them a nest box they will jump right in and start tunneling. When they are happy with the nest they may start pulling fur from their dewlap or they may wait until after the babies are born to pull fur.

when they are aggresive toward cage mates

There should be no cage mates. Every rabbit should have it's own cage, they are very territorial and will get aggressive to protect their 'turf'. They don't have to be pregnant.

A does appetite will increase if she is pregnant, she may also show a reluctance to let you pick her up if she is pregnant and she may 'cry' (a little mewing sound) if you do pick her up. Towards the end of the 28 to 31 days she will begin picking up straw or hay in her mouth and running around looking for a place to build a nest. When you give her a nest box she will jump in and start digging. Then she will start pulling fur from her dewlap to line her nest with.

first off consider if the female is living with a male rabbit. if the male has been netured then she is obviously not pregnant.

a phantom pregnancy is a normal occurance which happens to female rabbits at some time. it is where the doe simply believes she is pregnant so she begins to pluck her fur and build a nest. if your rabbits have just mated and she is building a nest (if the male has been done) this is the first sign of a phantom pregnancy because she cannot fall pregnant.

a doe at her prime breeding age can become abit more aggressive, try to mate with the male and sometimes other objects e.g. football (this is another obvious reason for her thinking she is pregnant) you will notice her collecting things, plucking her fur, trying to mate with things, building a nest and sitting brooding.

a pregnant rabbit will:

gain alot of weight quickly as rabbits have a short pregnancy,

begin eating and drinking alot more,

build a nest,

spend alot of time sitting on her nest,

become more tempermental,

not interact with the male as much,

change shape (sides become very wide and sometimes appear lumpy)

her season will stop

a phantom pregnancy:

build a nest,

mate with balls, other objects/try to or pester other rabbits or animals,

run circles around your feet,

pluck alot of fur from herself or the other rabbit,

not change shape,

she may eat more but usually this does not happen as her hunger will stay the same,

excrement will be the same,

build a nest soon after mating unlike if she was pregnant.

Most of these above signs are the signs of a doe that wants to be bred, a doe that is in 'season' Not a phantom pregnancy. The biggest sign of phantom pregnancy is going over 32 days and plucking herself bald. You may or may not see a change in a does shape when she is pregnant. Palpation is another way to determine whether a doe is pregnant or not.

The rabbit will look larger and be more aggressive to her territory and her body. It will start to pluck out fur to make her nest. Feed it a little more for her kits.

The gestation period for rabbits is so short you will barely have time to notice changes before the kits are born. It is true you may notice a slight enlargement in the belly area and some does may get a little aggressive. They will be resting more towards the end of the gestation period and (unless they are Angoras) you will notice their teats start to fill with milk a couple of days before delivery. They will act a little frantic about this time, picking up their bedding straw and running around the cage with it in their mouths. They may and they may not pull fur before they deliver their kits, it depends on the doe. A SLIGHT INCREASE in their pellet ration is warrranted after they deliver. Increasing their ration before delivery could lead to a condition known as KETOSIS. Not good.

What are the signs of a phantom pregnancy in a rabbit?

The main sign of phantom pregnancy is nesting. The bunny will start to pluck out the hair on her chest and tummy to build the nest with. In the case of some rabbits they will pull hair out of a bonded mate to nest build also. You will often see a nesting bunny frantically running around with a mouth full of hay to take to her nest. If you bunny is nesting without reason (i.e. she has not been bred, she is spayed, she has not had any contact with a male) then you can pretty much be sure it is a phantom pregnancy. A phantom or false pregnancy can be detected in several ways. If you have not bred your doe you KNOW it is a false pregnancy. If she goes over 32 days it is a false pregnancy. You can palpate at 15 days and if you do not feel babies but she insists on nesting you will know it is a false or phantom pregnancy. A doe having a false pregnancy will nest just like a doe that is pregnant. I have witnessed some that tend to go overboard nearly stripping themselves naked because no babies come. The doe that you determine to be having a phantom or false pregnancy should be bred immediately. There should be no 'bonded mate' for a doe with phantom pregnancy every rabbit should have it's own cage.

What symptoms do dogs get when they have a phantom pregnancy?

The only difference between a phantom pregnancy and a real pregnancy is that with a phantom pregnancy you are not actually carrying a baby and you will usually have a period and a negative pregnancy test. You will have the same symptoms as a regular pregnancy and they can last at least as long as 7 months.Scroll down to related links and look at "False pregnancy - Wikipedia"

What is a phantom pregnancy in a rabbit?

A false or phantom pregnancy for a rabbit is when a female bunny believes it is pregnant but acually isnt. They will start to pull fur from there stomach and bottom area to make a nest, They can be temperamental too, (eg. Grunting when you go near them or not wanting to be touched) It is quite common for bunnys to have phantom pregnancies but generally it is better to get a vet to check them over just incase. Do not try to feel for the babies yourself as this can severely damage and even kill them. The vet will do it professianally. Or if you cant afford a vet then you will have to wait and see. ( 1 month) Hope this helps.

Can you still have positive pregnancy tests with phantom pregnancies?

yes because to have the phantom pregnancy your body secretes pregnancy hormones which is what pregnancy tests look for

If you have a phantom pregnancy will the pregnancy test be positive?

Yes. In a phantom pregnancy, the body is tricked into feeling like it is pregnant. Consequently the same hormones present in a real pregnancy will be present in the body of someone who is undergoing a phantom pregnancy, and these hormones are what a pregnancy test detects.
