Signs may include:
Dirty, matted, and smelly fur
Seeing a person physically abuse the animal
Neglecting needs (i.e. inadequate medical care, food, fresh water or proper shelter)
Shying away from people
Visible bones due to malnutrition
Visible signs of bad health
Always nervous
Scars and or bruises
Afraid of owner
When you put your hand up or reach out to pet it, it yelps with fear due to previous abuse from another person
Constantly left alone and barking due to no attention given
Aggressiveness towards humans and animals
Being tied up to a short chain or in a cage and or for long periods of time,
Surroundings are dirty, walking or sleeping in his or her own feces (poop)
All this are signs of animal abuse and it can leave the poor animal traumatized. Report ANY abuse, or suspected animal abuse to the ASPCA (or any other animal shelter near you) or an Animal cop. They will take the animal in and do the best they can to make sure the animal ends up in a good loving home.
