There aren't many similarities between the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War but what I can say is that they both started in a different country and that country asked for the United States help. The United States plays a huge part in both wars. See in the Vietnam War the United States gets involved because our president didn't want Communism to spread across the world which would soon also end up in the United States. In the Persian Gulf War Kuwait was invaded by Iraqi and Kuwait called for help and the Unites States stepped in to help Kuwait drive out Iraqi from their country.

The Korean War is similiar to WW1. Both Korea & WW1 were the FIRST air wars (air to air combat/dog-fighting). WW1 with cloth covered bi-planes; Korea with jet aircraft. Both WW1 & Korean War were intense bloody fighting at close range all in one region, sometimes trench type warfare; back and forth battles. Both WW1 & Korean War were ended by an Armistice. Both WW1 & Korean War are overshadowed by WW2 & Vietnam War. The Vietnam War & WW2 are very similiar: Both created new branches of combat arms for the US Army; AIRBORNE Infantry for WW2 & AIRMOBILE Infantry for Vietnam. WW2 and the Vietnam War were highly mobile wars. Aerial combat (air to air combat/dog-fighting) was for WW2: "Refined" from WW1 & Vietnam's aerial combat was "refined" from the Korean War. Both wars ended in complete victory; allies won WW2, communists won the Vietnam War.

They were two totally different wars fought by different weapons and different tactics and in different places (terrain). Korea was mountainous and frozen; Vietnam was mostly lowlands and hot jungle. Furthermore, Korea was a conventional war from the outset...a virtual remake of WWII, culminating with a UN victory (successfully stopping the communists at the 38th Parallel); whilst Vietnam escalated from an infiltration fed guerrilla war into an uncontrollable conventional war...ultimately ending with a combined tank/infantry (conventional attack) led communist victory.

They were alike in that they both were fought Asia, both were fought between a North & South foe, and both were fought against communist aggression.

Tactics, helicopters and searching would be the only similarity. As far as war is concerned; there's no comparison:

1. WWI Allies verses Central Powers

2. WWII Allies verses Axis Powers

3. Korean War Allies (US & UN) vs North Korea & Communist China

4. Vietnam War Allies vs North Vietnam (supported by USSR/Red China)

Afghanistan? No nation is at war with Afghanistan. US/Coalition is hunting criminals, just like the "war on crime" in the United States; find em, arrest em, put em in prison (or execute them). If they don't surrender, "suicide by cop."

Two nations (countries) (with their allies) were at war with each other in Vietnam. No nations are at war with Afghanistan.
