Some special chemical properties of water is its formula H2O. This means that there are two atoms of hydrogen to every one atom of oxygen. Also on the pH scale water is neutral, or 7, which means it isn't acidic or basic.

glaciers oceans lakes rivers and streams

oceans are most of the water in the world but, did you know that ice glaciers contain most of the fresh water on earth! but we can not get to them and 1% of the water is drinkable.

One special property of water is that it is actually cohesive. The cohesion of water is much stronger than that of most other liquids. Water molecules stick together as a result of hydrogen bonding and that is what creates the cohesion. Because of the cohesion of water, small water bugs can walk on water fairly easily.

Water possesses several unique properties, one being its ability to dissolve, to some degree, every substance occurring on the earth's crust and in the atmosphere. Because of this solvent property water typically contains a variety of impurities, and these impurities make water so corrosive that it can dissolve even the toughest metal over a sufficient period of time. It is also the only known substance on Earth that expands when it freezes - this results in a lower density, and explains how icebergs can float.

Water has very high surface tension. This allows plants to transfer water through the roots and stems. Water is also more dense as a liquid than it is as a solid.

Does the concept of polarity explain water peculiar properties?

Water is a polar molecule, it means that a water molecule has an uneven distribution of electron density. This polarity of water gives it unique properties such as - vaporization, strong surface tension, high specific heat and universal solvent properties Floating of ice in water and the exclusion of compounds containing carbon and hydrogen are also due to polarity of water.
