It is very tricky to say what is "normal" and what justifies "hyperactivity." All children experience hyperactivity periodically while growing up. Some of the key elements you should look for in your child are: lack of attention to details, impulsive behaviors, difficulties staying on task, staying focused, and is easily distracted. These are only a few symptoms but you can also judge your child's hyperactivity by comparing him to several other boys his age. Since his teacher was concerned enough to contact you about this, it couldn't hurt to have your son evaluated by a child psychologist or psychiatrist.

Do you find it difficult to focus, sit still, "settle down"? Are you easily distracted by things outside your control, especially if you're supposed to be focusing on something else? You may have ADHD - attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Unlike regular ADD, the hyperactivity of ADHD makes it near-impossible for serious sufferers to concentrate on daily tasks. You don't just have problems concentrating - you have problems being still. Contact your doctor if these symptoms are affecting you or the ones you love.
