I just replaced one for a problem that had had me flummoxed. My 95 Plymouth Voyager 3.3 liter drove fine most of the time but on rare occasions wouldn't respond momentarily to the throttle. Also, after driving a long time, especially on a hot day, it would cut out when idling. After a rest, it would be OK again, at least for a while. My mechanic gave up after checking fuel pressure and MAP sensor but suggested the crank sensor next. I found the wiring lead to the crank sensor pulled taut from the position of the wiring harness and insulation at the base of the sensor brittle and wires partly broken and shorting. Now the van runs fine.
One symptom of a bad crank shaft sensor is the car having trouble starting. The car stalling and backfiring are other symptoms of a bad crank shaft sensor.
It is important to know the symptoms of a bad car part. The symptoms of a bad crank sensor is acceleration problems, engine sputtering and engine stalling.
no spark, no start
when my camshaft sensor was going bad, the vehicle refused to crank after being driven and parked for a few minutes. If you wait a little while it may crank. I heard of people pouring water on the sensor casing to crank them also.
Symptoms of a bad crank sensor is hard starting, no starting or rough idle. If you're able to start the engine, and it runs for a few minutes or seconds and then dies out, most likely it's a bad crank position sensor. Also, there may be no spark in some of the spark plugs.
The most common would be engine cranks but does not start.
Crank no start.
