There are no symptoms. The belt will just suddenly break. The belt must be changed every 90,000 miles. This is an interference engine and as such if the belt breaks you will have serious engine damage. Neglect this service at your own risk.
It is very hard to reset the timing (that's why you pay someone to do it). Although, it just means rotating by hand, everything must align "perfectly" or performance will suffer.
