The three Grand Divisions of Tennessee (West, Middle, and East) are approximately demarcated by the Tennessee River (west-middle) and the Cumberland Plateau (middle-east). West and Middle Tennessee are in the Central time zone and East Tennessee is in the Eastern time zone.

The divisions are delineated in the 1932 Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 4, Chapter 1, Part 2, Grand Divisions and State Capital, and referenced in the state constitution for the purpose of state offices, including judges of the state supreme court.
