Eastern Time - is (Greenwich Mean Time) GMT -5 hours, ie. 5 hours behind Greenwich, England.

Central Time - is (Greenwich Mean Time) GMT -6 hours, ie. 6 hours behind Greenwich, England.

Mountain Time - is (Greenwich Mean Time) GMT -7 hours, ie. 7 hours behind Greenwich, England.

Pacific Time - is (Greenwich Mean Time) GMT -8 hours, ie. 8 hours behind Greenwich, England.

Alaska Time - is (Greenwich Mean Time) GMT -9 hours, ie. 9 hours behind Greenwich, England.

Hawaii Time - is (Greenwich Mean Time) GMT -10 hours, ie. 10 hours behind Greenwich, England.

  • Chamorro Standard Time (ChST = UTC + 10 hrs.)
  • Atlantic Standard Time (AST = UTC - 4 hrs.)
  • Eastern Daylight Saving Time (EDT = UTC - 4 hrs.) and Eastern Standard Time (EST = UTC - 5 hrs.)
  • Central Daylight Saving Time (CDT = UTC - 5 hrs.) and Central Standard Time (CST = UTC - 6 hrs.)
  • Mountain Daylight Saving Time (MDT = UTC - 6 hrs.) and Mountain Standard Time (MST = UTC - 7 hrs.)
  • Pacific Daylight Saving Time (PDT = UTC - 7 hrs.) and Pacific Standard Time (PST = UTC - 8 hrs.)

There are six time zones used by the United States of America (not counting territories, only the fifty states.) The Atlantic coastal area falls within the Eastern Time Zone. The Midwest region is in the Central Time Zone. Colorado is in the Mountain Time Zone and the West Coast recognizes Pacific Time. Eastern Standard Time is 5 hours behind GMT. Central Standard Time is 6 hours behind GMT. Mountain -7 GMT and Pacific -8 GMT. Alaska falls within the Alaskan time zone which is -9 GMT and Hawaii is in the Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone at -10 GMT.
In Kansas City, Kansas USA it is approximately 5:45 PM.

For example: 8 PM Thursday In England = GMT +/- Zero and is the World's Reference Location. That is the same as: 3 PM Thursday in the US Eastern Standard Time zone {EST} = GMT-5 2 PM Thursday in the US Central Standard Time zone {CST} = GMT -6 1 PM Thursday in the US Mountain Standard Time zone {MST} = GMT -7 12 Noon Thursday in the US Pacific Standard Time zone {PST} = GMT -8 11 AM Thursday in the US Alaska Standard Time zone {AST} = GMT -9 10 AM Thursday in the US Hawaii Standard Time zone {HST}= GMT -10

There are nine standard time zones in the USA. From east to west: Atlantic Standard Time (AST) Eastern Standard Time (EST), Central Standard Time (CST), Mountain Standard Time (MST), Pacific Standard Time (PST), Alaskan Standard Time (AKST), Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (HST), Samoa standard time (UTC-11) and Chamorro Standard Time (UTC+10). Obviously, there are less if one deals only with the continental USA.
