There are the four inner, rocky planets are also known as the terrestrial planets. These are; Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. Then there are the four outer gas giant planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The inner planets are smaller and have a higher average density. The outer planets are much larger, but have no real surface - just atmosphere that gets thicker as you travel inwards.
One categorization separates the planets into the inner and the outer planets. The inner planets being Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars; while the Outer Planets being Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The outer and inner Planets are separated by the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
Another categorization that can be made involves separating the planets into terrestrial planets, which have a surface of solid ground, and gaseous planets, which have surfaces of gas. The inner planets are terrestrial, while the outer planets are gaseous.
The most obvious way to group the planets are "rocky planets" like Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, and "gas giant planets" like Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
The other way of grouping the planets is by "inner planets", and "outer planets". The separation is at the asteroid belt. Curiously, in our solar system the inner planets are all rocky, and the outer planets are all gas giants.
There is no main groups of planets in our solar system, although the Sun and Jupiter is special.
The rocky planets, such as Earth, and the gas giants, such as Jupiter.
they are the inner and outer planets
Gas giants and terrestrial planets.
There are the four smaller, denser, inner, rocky, terrestrial planets. then there are the four outer gas giant planets.
In our solar system, Mercury and Venus are the two planets which do not have moons.
Saturn is the second largest planet in the Solar System and exhibits a large ring structure.
The inner and outer planets
All of the planets in the solar system rotate, but two are very slow. They are Mercury and Venus.
rock and gas
There are two types of planets in the solar system. These are, the smaller, rocky planets, which are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, and the gas giants, which are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
uranus and mars
There are the four smaller, denser, inner, rocky, terrestrial planets. then there are the four outer gas giant planets.
do the densities of the solar system planets fall into two or more groups
A model of a solar system, complete with planets, is a great project for children. The two main types of solar system models are box models and hanging models. A large ball, such as a foam ball or toy ball, can be used to represent the sun. The planets can be represented using Styrofoam balls.
Mars and Earth
In our solar system, Mercury and Venus are the two planets which do not have moons.
