Four components or often called " 4 P's"

the powers - forces that cause the cervix to open & that propel the fetus downward. Two powers: uterine contractions & mother's pushing efforts.

the passage - the passageway the baby will go thru. It consists of mother's bony pelvis & the soft tissues of her pelvis & perineum(cervix, muscles, ligaments, facia).

the passenger - is the FETUS, along w/ the placenta(after birth), amniotic membranes, & amniotic fluids.

the psyche - (personality) the woman's cultural & individual values influence how she will be able to cope w/childbirth

Well, you go through labor first. You will be in labor for a couple hours or longer and then finally you will just feel like pushing and getting it over with. You can have a C-section or a natural birth. During a C-section they put you to sleep and cut the baby out of your stomach. During a natural birth, you give birth to the baby by yourself. You push, and the baby's body will come out of your vagina. It hurts like HELL! At least to me it did. It doesn't take long, though. Only a couple minutes and you have your beautiful baby. =D. You can have a hospital birth, a water birth, or a home birth.

The uterus contracts repeatedly, the cervix opens and becomes dilated; the amniotic membrane breaks; the baby enters the birth canal and is born vaginally; the placenta follows 30 minutes later.

this question needs more clarification on what exactly you are referring to. for me i know that there are MANY THINGS which happen during that process beginning from the time when the presenting part appears up to the control of bleeding when the process is finished
