Although it is often credited to Charles Darrow, researchers now say it was based on "The Landlord's Game," created in 1903 by Quaker economist and activist Elizabeth Magie.
He is Monopoly's mascot, originally named Rich Uncle Pennybags, aka Frank Moneybags, but has since been rechristened as simply 'Mr Monopoly'.
