What are the type of semiconductor diode?

Answer:

Material wise the two commercial types are those made for Germanium and those made from Silicon.

As far as the different functions that these diodes do..... That seems almost endless.

They Include:

Power Rectification
Signal detection and processing
Voltage regulation
Current regulation
Light Emission
Lightening suppression
Tuning of radios
