The standard types, just like with the CD format, are:
[ by Format type ]
DVD-ROM (pre-recorded from the factory, OR the "most standard" standard)
DVD-R (the standard blank write-once media)
DVD+R (supposed to offer superior data protection)
DVD-RW (-R rewriteable)
DVD+RW (+R rewriteable)
DVD-RAM (multiple-write sort-of like hard drive/pagefile, supported by certain DVD burners)
DVDs on a PC can be burned either all to DVD-ROM (the default option), or to "physical media type" (DVD-R, DVD+R etc.) - the availability of this latter option depends on the writer hardware and used software.
[ by Content type ]
DVD-Video
DVD-Audio
DVD-Data
[ by Physical Media type (storage space/video or audio length capability etc.) ]
Single-Side, Single-Layer (SSSL, default) - 4.7 GB
Single-Side, Double-Layer (SSDL) - 2x 4.7 GB
Dual-Side, Single-Layer (DSSL) - 2x 4.7 GB
Dual-Side, Double-Layer (DSDL) - 4x 4.7 GB
Also, note that the "video length" and similar information provided on DVDs applies and conforms to reality only, when DVD-Video (or DVD-Audio) format is used, as this forces a pre-defined encoding/compression of information (DVD-Data can store any type of information in any file format).
DVD r the R stands for recordable. DVD rw the rw stands for re-writable. Both types let you record, the rewritable lets you use them multiple times.
The - and + symbol standards were developed by different companies and are noting single layer recording or multilayer recording styles
For pre-recorded discs that you are not able to record with there are two possible abbreviations
DVD a single layer disc which contains data and cannot be used to record
DVD+ a multlayer disc which contains data and cannot be used to record
With discs that you record for yourself there are typically four abbreviations:
DVD-r a single layer disc that can be recorded once
DVD+r a multilayer disc that can be recorded once
DVD-rw a single layer disc that can recorded, erased and reused
DVD+rw a multi layer disc that can be recorded, erased and reused
In addition any of them can be designated dual layer which doubles the storage area and will contain the dual layernotation somewhere on the disc usually near the DVD+/- symbol.
While most modern players are capable of reading and playing from all 12 DVD types; DVD burners that create discs are often very picky about which types it is able to burn. Depending on the brand manufacturer and the age of the player it may only be capable of creating some of the recordable types (a burner is typically either + or - and than it may or may not be able to handle dual layer on top of that)
The instructions for the player and/or burner should note which DVD formats are supported for playback and a separate list of which are supported for DVD burning
Beyond those physical disc types there are also differences in region coding. Different countries and/or continents have regional codes noted separate from the DVD symbol. If your player and/or recorder are region coded than only discs which match your region code will function. This most often only effects pre-recorded movie discs and not recordable formats and it is becoming far more common for newer DVD players to be region free. If your player and/or burner have region coding this designation and which regions it supports should be explained in the documentation. This region code rarely effects computer DVD drives and is usually a modification on cheaper model stand alone DVD players to discourage cross region pirating and control distribution of films.
like what do you mean?? there is the -r and the +r or theres the 5 gb one or the 9 gb.
You Momma .
dvd or usb amount of storage for pictures
DVD rewiter is that storage
A DVD is the media that data is written to. A DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD/RW etc is the optical storage device.
Dual-layer DVDs are the optimal type of DVD to use on a multi-drive DVD. Dual-layer DVDs are preferred due to the amount of storage capacity they contain.
The most common type of computer file storage is Hard Disk , it is in built with computer . External Storage is Like CD , DVD , Pen Drive , Floppy Drive .

CD and DVD storage technologies are typically classified as computer data storage. They can also be referred to as external storage.
Answer: The storage capacity of DVD RAM Single layer 4GB Double layer 8GB
What is minimum capacity OF dvd
DVD has a storage space of 4.7 GB CD has storage space of 0.7 GB Blu-Ray has storage space of 24-340 GB
No. Optical storage uses lasers to "see" the media (e.g. CD, DVD, HD-DVD and BluRay)
