What are the uses of adsorption?

Answer:
It is used for separation of gases, based on the differences in the adsorption of gases on adsorbent at different temperature.Example : mixture of noble gases can be separated usin activated charcoal.

Silica and alumina gels are used as adsorbents for removing moisture and for controlling humidities of room.

Adsorption also plays an important role in heterogeneous catalysis,eg use of finely divided Fe in the manufacture of ammonia and that of finely divided Ni in the hydrogenation of oils.

Activated charcoal is used in gas masks in which all toxic gasas and vapour are adsorbed by the charcoal while pure air passes through its pores practically unchanged.
