If you're trying to bypass it doesn't have to be exact but it does need to be close. To make the correct value of resistor, get resistors of different values and add them up. Solder them in-line to each other. If you don't know the correct value start at the bottom and work your way up. There's a 4 minute wait between trys and the ignition needs to go to the OFF position before you start the wait.

Search the internet for "VATS Bypass". I bypassed the vats on a 1996 Buick by accessing the wiring diagram for the VATS. I measured the resistance of the key chip. There are 15 different values it can be. It is simply a resistor. In this case, the chip measured 3000 ohms. I went to Radio shack and got a combination of resistors that would give me 3000 ohms. There are 2 wires that come out of the VAT module and go up the steering column to the key switch. I located the VAT module behind the glove box. I cut those two wires and soldered the resistors in so that the module always saw 3000 ohms. You have to solder the resistor on the module side, not the key side.

HHHey the vats went out on my 1992 camaro rs 305 v8,tbi,i tried everything ,nothing worked ,i went to a junk yard and got a used ecm from a 1991 non-vats caprice,,pluged it in ,,no more vats ,,runs great ,,,i dont even have any lights on at all ,,great way to totally get rid of this crappy set up ,the rest of the bypasses dont work if your reader is bad ,or any other part of vats ,,so just get rid of it
