The Independent Variable : It is the ONE thing you plan to be different in the experiment. You decide on what is going to be different BEFORE doing the experiment.
Dependent Variable or Outcome Variable : It is the result you compare of measure in the experiment.
Controlled Variable : This is the part of the experiment that you DO NOT CHANGE. This is what STAYS THE SAME.

Things that do not have fixed values are known as variables. The speed of light has a set value, so it never changes and is known as a constant. Temperature does change, so it is a variable. Variables can affect how an experiment goes. A different temperature will have a different effect on an experiment. The weight of an object can be different, the size of something, the quantity of something can all be variables. Sometimes though you may want to work with a specific value of something that normally does change. Some experiments may require that a temperature has to be at a specific value for example. For the purpose and success of that experiment, the temperature value would have to be a constant.
