- isotopes ²⁴²Cm and ²⁴⁴Cm are used as alpha particles sources for α-spectrometers mounted on spacecraft engines to analyze planetary or cosmic samples.
- precursor in the preparation of ²³⁸Pu and of isotopes of Sg, Hs, Cf, etc.
