What are to the 'powers of' in maths?

Answer:
The amount of times the number by which the power is above is multiplied by itself. E.g. 64 means 6x6x6x6 because it is to the power of 4 therefore it multiplies by itself four times.

the answer to 6x6x6x6 would not be 24
the way i work it our is..
6x6=24
24x6=144
144x6=864
