I got a case of Shingles in January of 2009. Fortunately, it was just on my left had and lower left arm. Hurt like hell and it took a while to subdue both the pain and skin condition. I did enough research to know that I was in for a long recovery at best. I walk my dog in the morning and have an orange tree in the back yard. About mid February, the Oranges were ripe enough to eat so I grabbed one on a morning walk. As I peeled it, the orange oil from the rind covered my hands. I watched the redness on my hand begin to lessen and the pain begin to measurable subside. That relief lasted for about four hours. I took some orange peels with me to work in a baggie the next days and would spread the oil from the rind on as needed. As Shingles suffers know, the pain can return at anytime for some time to come. Each time it does, I head for the back yard, grab an orange and experience immediate relief. Give it a try and enjoy the orange after you peel it.

I am pretty sure that no "over the counter " drugs will help a whole lot, although standard

pain-killers, aspirin, tylenol, etc. may make you feel better.

You need to see a physician for a prescription for something more effective, such as

various cortico-steroids which may lessen the damage caused by the virus.

One year olds don't normally get shingles. You can only get shingles if you've had the chickenpox, and a child that young is unlikely to have been infected. See your health care provider for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.
