Methods of propaganda

Types of Propaganda:

1. Bandwagon - To convince the audience to do or believe something because everyone else is doing it.

2. Plain Folks - Suggesting something is practical and a good value for ordinary people.

3. Glittering Generality - Using words so strongly positive in emotional content that just hearing them makes you feel good. The words express a positive meaning without actually giving a guarantee.

4. Transfer - Transferring good looks, feelings, or ideas to the person who the propaganda is meant to influence. Suggests the positive qualities to be associated with the product and the user.

5. Testimonial - Using a famous person to endorse the product.

6. Repetition - Using the product name or a keyword or phrase over and over.

7. Name Calling- Using harsh/kind words to make a point effective.

I don't know what you mean by types of propoganda but if you mean where it can be found, then it can be found many different places. It can be found in graphs, pictures, advertisements, shows, etc.

A great example of propoganda is actually going on in my school right now. I am a ninth grader at midvale middle school in Utah and midvale has a program called ALPS (accelerated learning program for students) it basically means that our reading and math classes are 1 year ahead of other schools. The district of our school decided they want to move the ALPS program to a different school, and therefore there have been many board meetings about the matter. The reason they want to move it is because midvale is not a very well educated area, and therefore the boundry students don't test well on the end of the year tests. The district came into the board meetings already convinced they want to move the ALPS program, and so they have used propoganda to convince the people and the meeting to vote in their favor. The main way they have done this is by discluding the highest scoring students in the school aka the alps students. They have also discluded the honors students which leaves only about 30% of the school, which also happen to be the lowest scoring students. Through this information they have made several graphs to show that midvale is doing poorly compared to other schools, and therefore the alps kids should be moved to a higher scoring school. Another way they have used propoganda (by convincing people to think a certain way based on false or altered information) is directly through the graphs. They have altered the graphs so midvale looks as if they score only half the state and district average. But the numbers on the graph have been tweaked because a brilliant teacher in our school (Mr. Saunders) has asked to be given the information that was used to make the graphs. He found several flaws in the graphs and therefore the district has once again lied to its people just so they will vote in their favor.

I know this may all sound irrelivant but propoganda can cause lots of distruction in peoples opinions and lives.

The Propaganda Techniques/Types

The Glittering Generalities- are emotionally appealing words applied to a product or idea, but which present no concrete argument or analysis. A famous example is the campaign slogan "Ford has a better idea!"

The Band Wagon- and "inevitable-victory" appeals attempt to persuade the target audience to join in and take the course of action that "everyone else is taking." For example a telecommunications company which shows the number of people who are presently joining the group and all of them are asking you to join the group.

Name Calling- to incite fears and arouse prejudices in their hearers in the intent that the bad names will cause hearers to construct a negative opinion about a group or set of beliefs or ideas that the propagandist would wish hearers to denounce.

Labelling- A Euphemism is used when the propagandist attempts to increase the perceived quality, credibility, or creedence of a particular ideal. A Dysphemism is used when the intent of the propagandist is to discredit, diminish the perceived quality, or hurt the perceived righteousness of the Mark. Labeling can be thought of as a sub-set of Guilt by association, another Logical Fallacy.

Repetition- type of propaganda deals with a jingle or word that is repeated over and over again, thus getting it stuck in someones head, so they can buy the product.

Testimonial-are quotations, in or out of context, especially cited to support or reject a given policy, action, program, or personality. The reputation or the role (expert, respected public figure, etc.) of the individual giving the statement is exploited. For example a politician who is showing that she is washing her clothes just to promote that she is humble.

Euphoria- can be created by declaring a holiday, making luxury items available, or mounting a military parade with Marching Bands and patriotic messages.

What is black and white propaganda?

In times of war, Black and White Propaganda were the two types of propaganda released to the public; both of which were designed to make the enemy look cruel or weak. White propaganda focused on facts to enlighten the public to the enemies danger or cruelty; for example, the bombing of London in 1941 was released in the form of a poster with the slogan 'Men, will you stand for this?' to show the danger that the Nazis posed to Britain. Black propaganda, however, over exaggerated or flat-out lied about the facts.
