What are ways to ask a girl out?

I'm a girl, so I'll try to answer!

I'm going to assume you don't already know the girl or her friends, because one of her friends could give you some help. So here goes...

LEVEL 1

You can try the basic approach: "Hello! My name is _________. Would you like to go out sometime?" This way lacks style, but it is very honest!

LEVEL 2

You can try the romantic approach: Get a flower - just a single flower - it can be a rose, but roses are over-used so maybe a nice spring flower. Make sure it's a PINK or PURPLE flower, because flower colors mean special things to some people's cultures, so those are the only 2 colors that are ok. Then do the "hi/my name/go out?"

LEVEL 3

You can try the non-approach. This takes a few days but generally it works very well: If you see her every day somewhere - like at a food court, or if you used the same subway stop - just introduce yourself and talk a bit. After a few days of friendly chats, ask her out.

LEVEL 4

Best of all: Think of some way to ask her out that is unique.

For example -- When I was in college, I lived in an old building that had only 1 door going outside. The guy who wanted to ask me out, he found out my name from the neighbors. Then he drew a flower on a piece of paper, wrote my name, and then wrote "please call Frank at 555-5555" I had no idea who he was, but since he showed that had put some thought and work into asking me, I called him.

Just be careful you don't put TOO MUCH work into it, or at best she will think that you're trying too hard, and at worst she'll think that you're stalking her. You want to come across as someone polite and approachable, someone who would like to see her but who won't be totally crushed if she says no. (Well, you might be, but tell it to your friends.)

Well I hope that will get you started, anyway.

Watch out for LEVEL ZERO:

Some people think it's alright to ask your friends, or her friends, to ask her. I know this never worked with me because, if the guy is too nervous to talk to me himself, then he'll never make it through a whole date with me. So I always said no. It's LAME.

And watch out for LEVEL MINUS-ZERO:

Whistling, yelling out a car window, calling her baby, forgetting to tell her your name first, saying something aggressive (demanding a date like "you're coming with me to the club tonight, right?" instead of asking her nicely like "I'm going to the club tonight, would you like to make it a date?")... I know 4-year-olds with better manners than that!

So work up the courage and think of a plan... and GOOD LUCK!
