Answer

An 18-year-old is considered a legal adult and therefore has all the rights as would an older person, he or she can enter into contractual agreements, vote, live independently of his or her parents/guardian, etc.

The exception being those state and/or federal laws which contain age specific regulations such as the buying and consumption of alcohol which in all 50 states is 21.
