Media are used to convince people to believe in something ~ Apex
The spreading of information, ideas, or rumors to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, or nation
Propaganda is a noun which means information, often of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view or a commercial purpose.
Propaganda is information, ideas, or rumors that are deliberately, and widely, spread to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, or other similar entity.
The word propaganda is usually used when describing official, government versions of events, where the implication is that the stories and information being given are distorted in such a manner as to conceal actual events, and to make you think in the way that the government wants you to think.
Propaganda is at its best when there is a war going on. Since WWI to the present time, propaganda has been used by the media to cheer their country on, sometimes through false hopes and lies. Often, during these periods, the government will leak out certain information of its choosing, and the media will report it, but not always in the way that it was given. In other words, propaganda is often used to misguide the public.
One historic example of propaganda were the films that were shown in German cinemas to children during WWII. In these films, Jewish families were shown to be living in what looked like a holiday camp out east. The children were playing in fields and nice playgrounds, and having nice food and sweets. This was in the 1940s, and it made the German public believe that when the Jews were forced out from Germany, or from other countries, they were having a great time; whereas, in actuality, they were being sent to concentration camps, where many of them died.
