Hard bones (i.e, cow bones) are consider "rec" bones. Basically your dog could chip or break a tooth if given these bones.

HOWEVER...chicken and turkey bones are perfectly fine for dogs if RAW. Cooked bones in general are a lot more brittle, and these are the ones that splinter and get caught in the throat/intestines. Though, you shouldn't give too much bone, as this can cause constipation.

ALSO, dogs can thrive on a meat/bone/organ only diet, as do the wolves (the dogs ancestors). There is a Yahoo group (RawFeeding) dedicated to this species-appropriate diet! Try it out and see how much it improves your dogs overall health.

i once had a dog die from eating a steak bone .a small sliver worked its way up to her brain.so personally i dont feed my dogs any bones.
