it depends on the childs knowledge. if they have read lots before, and are on the elder end of the scale, then books like mary poppins, little women, things by roald dahl, Harry Potter, ballet shoes, what katy did and that kind of thing. if they are younger and have not read much, then picture books are good, but ones with more writing are better, so that their vocabulary is enhanced. things like Winnie the pooh, beartrix potter, my naughty little sister and doctor zeuss are all good. the latter ones are good for children capable of being read the first ones, too. it really depends on the child, however.
