James is credited with writing the General Epistle of James. However, some scholars say that the epistle was not really written by the disciple called James. In earlier times, when the early Church Father, Eusebius (260-340 CE), listed the books of the New Testament according to content and authority, he said that James was a disputed book. Martin Luther is also reported to have described James' Epistle as worthless.
James wrote only the book bearing his name, as the beginning of the letter indicates:
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
