Hmm...it can't be answered for sure as all the systems are upgraded constantly.

As for now i wold suggest the Mac mini or the iMac, whichever suits your budget. Considering the new Mac OS X vs. Vista, Mac would surely outrun Vista as Vista needs tremendous hardware upgradation and it also comes ith 6 different editions confusing you to choose the appropriate one. Where as Mac's new Leopard offers the ultimate experience and only one for all. Mac mini and iMac both are the smallest ever home and office computers I've seen. Mac allow you to run Windows applications on it which is not possible in the Vista!

This is a hard question to answer as there is no clear cut reason why one should be better than another. This is actually a pretty big topic with many variables. To put it simply, to my knowledge, Dell, HP, Sony Vaio, EMachines, Gateway, etc are system builders for the most part, meaning they design and assemble systems using parts purchased from other manufacturers. Companies like Intel and Nvidia design and build chips, sell them to motherboard manufacturers who then in turn sell completed motherboards directly to Dell, HP, etc. HP or Dell or whoever has to locate and buy motherboard, power supply, memory, CPU, hard drive, video card sometimes, DVD-ROM drives, monitor, keyboard, mouse, monitor, software/operating system, and chassis (although some items may be made in-house) and assemble and sell the completed system at a certain price point that will be able to sell in the market place and make a profit for the company.

What this means is that some parts will be bought for cheap in order to reduce the total system cost. For example, a power supply in a desktop computer can be bought for as little as $10 or as much as $600 (as of July 2008 on Newegg). You can be assured that a $400 computer has a power supply that is much closer to $10 than $300 that would be found in a computer enthusiast's custom built computer. You are also going to get cheaper components overall in a cheaper system, no matter which brand you choose. All of the major brands are essentially doing the same thing, which is building cheap computers at a certain price point as well as building more expensive computers with higher quality parts for a higher price.

I would also add that looking for a computer that uses standard form factor parts will be a good decision because if something breaks you can replace it with a standard size replacement. Realistically what this means is that if you buy a really weird shaped computer, or one that is really tiny, or otherwise not normal there is a good chance it uses non standard type parts and if it breaks it will be much more expensive to fix.

Personally I believe that building a desktop system where you personally get to choose the components based on standard ATX dimensions is a better way to go because if something breaks you can easily buy standard replacement parts and do the work yourself because you initially built it. The only tools you need at this time in many cases is a Phillips head screwdriver and you can easily install of the components yourself and it can be fairly easy if you are smart and careful. Again, there is no shortage of info on this subject.

In summary, the differences between PC's at a given price are going to be minimal. If you want a better computer spend a little bit more cash. The cheaper you go the more skimpy the part selection will be no matter what brand you choose to go with. I would say Dell probably would be the best bet if I had to choose what is most reliable. This is just my opinion though as it is not an exact science.

Based on sales, the top brands in the USA for the first quarter of 2010 were as follows:

1. HP - 4.45 million units (26.25% market share)

2. Dell - 4.1 million units (24.8% market share)

3. Acer - 2.5 million units (13% market share)

4. Toshiba - 1.45 million units (7.65% market share)

5. Apple - 1.25 million units (7.5% market share)

Based on experience with over ten years working with computers:

1. ASUS

2. ALIENWARE & DELL

3. APPLE

4. ACER

Funny enough, they all begin with A if you forget that Dell bought Alienware otherwise they wouldn't even be on the list. <3
