Ice and elevate are the general things, but rubbing your ankle towards your heart (starting from the foot and going up) will help remove the swelling from the area, even though it may hurt. Also, you may want to keep it tightly wrapped in an Ace bandage (but not too tightly!)

∙ 10y agoIf one has a swollen ankle, one may do many things to relieve that pain. One of the many remedies is to try yoga, since exercise gets the blood flowing that may help. Another remedy is to drink a lot of fluids (especially water) since excess salt in the body leads to swelling.

∙ 15y agoThe best thing to do for swelling after ankle surgery is to put ice on it and to rest it for a while, if there is a lot of pain you can ask your doctor for pain meds. or just take some advil.

∙ 14y agoLie down and raise it up above your heart and put ice on it for 20 minutes every hour (20 on, 40 off). Do this as much as possible for the first 24-48 hours.
