Get help thru soial service, child protection whatever it's called where you live.If she isn't caring for herself then she isn't caring for her unborn baby. Please don't think you can't do something! There are no laws that say a mother must adjust her lifestyle to protect her unborn. However, when the child is born if he/she is found to be suffering from malnutrition, FAS, a chemical addiction, or other malady, the mother could face neglect and/or endangerment charges. The infant would be removed from the custody of the mother and CPS would be notified. The outcome of the investigation would decide what if any action would be taken. A grandparent(s) can petition the court for custody of the child after he/she has been born, not before.

Can half sister stop grandmother from seeing her grandson?

FOR MY OPINON NO BECAUSE GRANDMOTHER IS BLOOD AND ELDERLY AND HALF SISTER IS IN BY MARRIAGE SO YOU DON'T COME IN A FAMILY AND DISREPECT ELDERLY If the half-sister is the mother of the grandchild, or has legal custody of the grandchild through other means, she may have the authority to stop the grandmother fro seeing her grandchild, depending on whether the state in which the grandchild lives has laws establishing grandparents' rights.

How likely is it for a grandmother to receive custody of her grandchild when the grandchild is living with her father and her mother died and she feels like the household is unfit for her?

It depends on how truly unfit the living situation is. If you believe the child's welfare is in danger, you should have your local department of children and families initiate an investigation. There has to be clear evidence that the child is in jeopardy for him or her to get taken out of the home.

Does the husband of a grandmother have any rights to the grandchild?

The husband of a grandmother is often the grandfather. In general, however, grandparents do not have rights to a grandchild unless the parents are dead or legally incapacitated and the grandparents are the closest competent relatives. Even then, a court must first assign custody to the grandparents, it does not come automatically.

What rights exist for the grandmother of a newborn whose minor mother has been declared unfit?

The father would have priority unless he has been deemed unfit or does not want custody. If the father consents the grandmother will likely be appointed legal guardian. If he objects there will be a hearing at which both sides present evidence to support their request for custody and the court will render a decision based on the best interest of the child. The grandmother should consult with an attorney who specializes in custody issues.
