First, just let your primary care physician know that you want to do this, and I suspect that you want to gain weight because it will be a healthy and beneficial thing for you to do. You should let your doctor know so that she/he can give you some ideas about what your personal needs are regarding diet. Your doctor can also help you decide how much weight would be good for you to gain, and over how long a period. Then follow your doctor's advice. It would be hard to imagine that your doctor's advice would not include the basic ideas of eating a varied diet of foods that are as fresh as you can manage, and getting a reasonable amount of aerobic and resistance exercise. If you need to gain weight, then you are doing a good thing. But it would make much more sense to gain both healthy muscle mass and whatever fat you need to stay healthy. You can gain weight and still maintain an excellent body-mass index (a measure of the relationship between your body fat and your body muscle).
