It really depends on the recipe; it certainly won't be a disaster, because they have similar acidic tastes. But in a drink, for instance, lemon juice is sharper and would make the drink less fruity....
Generally any other citrus juice will suffice. Though it will impact the end result. Limes are generally sweet with a hint of sour. While other citrus fruits may make the food more tart, sour, etc.
