Copper is a useful metal because it conducts heat and electricity well, it is also soft and can be bent and molded easily, it also oxidizes/ corrodes very slowly (unlike iron).

There are many uses for copper including:

Electrical wire (electric motors/ generators/ turbines)

Electrical contact switches (power plants/ circuit breakers)

Printed circuit boards contain copper strips connecting components (phones/ PC's, radios, TV's)

Copper Plumbing pipe (still in use in some countries)

Money, some countries still use "copper pennies" or variations of these

In more recent times copper and nickle have been replaced in certain currencies (with brass), as the metal content value is sometimes higher than the face value of the coin.

In the past copper was used for roof sheeting, cooking pots, kettles, taps, rails, lightning rods, boat keels.

The shell covering the Statue of Liberty is made from copper, hence its green/ blue color as it oxidizes

Copper itself is a good conductor of electricity. Substances that are made out of copper is likely to have a conductive property. Most of all metals are good conductors of heat and electricity. Copper wiring is one of the most common example.

The application of copper to conduct electricity is mainly for copper wiring, which allows the electricity to be conveyed from one area to another, like from the power plant to your house.
