What caused the Soviet Missile Crisis?

The Soviets wanted to have missiles near the USA's capital. Cuba was willing to do so. The US noticed this and thought it was a bad idea. The Americans shook their sword, the Cubans shook theirs. Neither wanted a nuclear war. Both sides eventually went away unhappy. the Soviet Union shipped weapons to Cuba.
