ive had a couple of work trucks over the years which started to shudder. both needed auto transmission work.
Could be lots of causes, but most likely either rear differential issue or torque converter shudder in automatic transmission, though Ford is not nearly as common to have transmission shudder as a Chrysler is. Mine was the rear differential. (98, 5.4l). Mine was most pronounced when accelerating around a corner. Transmission shudder would most likely show up on acceleration at any time.
I just had the same problem with my 1994 Ford Thunderbird, to make a long story short, the torque converter was bad. Mine had gotten really bad and started making a rattling noise. At any rate after I finished the change, it runs like a champ. No more shudder.
GENERALLY, WHEN A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE SHUDDERS WHEN YOU ARE ACCELERATING, IT IS ONE OF THE INSIDE CV JOINTS THAT IS OUT. THERE ARE DRIVE SHAFTS THAT COME OUT OF THE TRANSMISSION, AND THEY HAVE BOOTS ON THE INSIDE CLOSE TO THE TRANSMISSION, AND BOOTS ON THE OUTSIDE CLOSE TO THE WHEELS. THE INSIDE BOOTS AND JOINTS TEND TO SHUDDER UPON ACCELERATION WHEN THEY ARE OUT. HOPE THIS HELPS.
will the transmission causes my 1999 ford expedition to bog down & sputter when accelerating the 4.6liter engine.
1999 ford ranger has reverse, 1st and 2nd no drive , reverse quits when it gets warm , can you help diagnose
Quite possibly a worn second gear clutch pack.
Any SAE certified transmission fluid can be used in your 1999 Ford. Ford automobiles use the same transmission fluid as other makes of cars.
The transmission is bolted to the rear of the engine
A little more information please ( what model of 1999 Ford , automatic or manual transmission , what size of engine )
No. The 99 Escort takes a 97 to 02 transmission.
It could be that the transmission cooler in the radiator is plugged.
