there is a plastic gomit on the cable that runs from the accelerator to the trans.this decomposes and causes shifting problems on many older Ford products,if you go to the dealer and tell the parts guy about your problem and that youd like the plastic gromit they should know exactly what your talking about as this is a common problem but its the od trans that does this not the c-6
