Go see a doctor because that is not common at all...

This could be an allergic reaction to a product such as dish detergent, soap, lotion, etc. that you've just begun using. Allergic reactions can also occur to things that you've been using for a long time, and are not always only to new products that you've just begun using.

If you've recently done gardening, taken a walk through a park, wooded area, etc., it could be an allergic reaction to a particular plant, as well.

It was most likely something you touched. Of course, this depends on several factors (What does the rash look like?; Is it itchy or painful?; What were you doing with your hands today?). However, the most probable explanation is that you touched a poisonous plant (such as poison oak or poison ivy) or an animal with stinging cells (such as anemones, jellyfishes, or other cnidarians). Allergic reactions are also possibilities, though less likely because of the thickness of the skin on one's palm. The best thing to do is to see your doctor if it spreads or persists.
