What causes cauliflower ear?

It is a non-medical term used to describe an external ear that has been damaged, leaving the cartilage looking lumpy. The lumps are what people have described as looking like cauliflower. This is usually due to multiple injuries to the ear, such as boxing athletes can get from repeated blows to the ears. It is seen less often now that helmets are worn in training to avoid ear damage and head injuries.
