The most common problem, in my experience, is parasitic intestinal worms. Don't fret, your vet will provide you with de-worming medicine, and the problem should clear up in a day or so.
Your vet must rule out bowel obstruction, colitis, and colon cancer. Those are much more serious.

Also check when you walk your dog to see if it has hard or dry stools. This, too can cause rectal bleeding, but it is always best to take a beloved pet to the Vet . This is also present in the later stages of distemper, and not so easily treated , and may be fatal if the dog has not had all it's shots ,so get a wiggle on. It could be serious.
