The earth orbits the sun due to the combination of the sun's gravitational pull on the earth and the earth's momentum and speed through space. This is true for all orbiting bodies in space including the moon's orbit of the earth and our solar system's orbit of the centre of our galaxy.

The earth spins on its axis because of the way that it was formed. The entire solar system was formed at about the same time as the sun, 4.6 billion years ago. Before that time there was just a large cloud of gas and dust. The cloud eventually began to collapse on itself, which was the beginning of the formation of the sun. It didn't, however, collapse straight in on itself, it began to swirl in, like when you let water go down the drain. This swirling motion created some eddies, as also happens on occasion when the water goes down the drain. These other smaller swirls began to clump matter together too, and that is what made the planets. Since it was a spinning motion that formed the earth, it is natural that it just kept spinning afterward.

Planet Moon appears to be the basic Cause. It has been said Moon revolves once every Rotation around Earth calling it,which is an insufficient statement. Tidal locking's effect is the cause for Earth to revolve,Moon dose not have revolving axes like Earth has. Moon is hinged on it's orbital plane, fixed in it's direction but variable in location on it's orbital plane relative to Earth. Moon act as a regulator for Earth revolution and the Variables are Moon's distance and rotational velocity beside other celestial bodies as Factors.

Another Perspective

There are many theories and factors that must be taken back further in time while the earth was forming. See related links for more information.
